Be Mindful Of Passenger Or Cargo Weight
It's common knowledge that motorcycle tires have inflation guidelines. Being familiar with these guidelines is only the first component. You also need to understand the effect that passenger weight can have on the inflation of a tire. The heavier the load, the greater the PSI level needs to be for the tire. If you plan to have an additional adult passenger on your motorcycle or carry cargo, you need to take some time to adjust the PSI level of your tires for safety purposes.
If you overlook the effect of passenger weight, this can make it harder for you to handle your motorcycle while riding. This can lead to frequent and uncontrollable weaving and wobbling, and an increased risk for tire failure. Store Your Motorcycle Properly
If you happen to live in a climate that does not afford you the opportunity to ride your motorcycle year round, you will likely end up storing your motorcycle during the winter. Make sure you're doing so with care. First, inspect your motorcycle for an oil or gasoline leak. Either of these substances can unknowingly saturate your tires and lead to extremely unsafe driving conditions. Even if a leak is not suspected, it's a good idea to completely drain these liquids before storage.
You also want to be mindful of the storage location. Never store your motorcycle near ozone producing machines, such as a refrigerator. The excessive ozone emitted into the air can accelerate damage to your tires. Spider cracks and sidewall damage are just a couple of the common problems. Even a tire that is in good condition can quickly decline if stored near ozone producing appliances for an extended period of time.
Being mindful of the manner in which you care for your motorcycle tires won't just help keep you safe on the road, but it can also help preserve your tires and keep more money in your wallet.
