Buying Used Auto Parts On A Budget: How A Salvage Yard Can Save You Money

by Rosa Wallace

When your vehicle breaks down and you need to replace parts, you can feel strapped to get your vehicle back in running condition when you don't have a large budget. Buying new parts for your auto can be expensive, but you need them in order to safely operate your vehicle. Many people turn to salvage yards for their used auto parts for many reasons. Learn a few of them here, so you can get your vehicle back to running condition without going broke.

Variety

Any part that you need is likely to be available at salvage yards, and the price you pay is typically dependent on the condition on the part you buy. Since the parts are used, you don't pay nearly as much as you would if you were buying new. If you need a solenoid, for example, a junk yard will tell you how many vehicles they have in their lot that match the description of yours, and you can choose which solenoid you want out of your options. Sometimes, older solenoids are still in excellent condition and will be cheaper than their newer counterparts, which saves you money.

Low or no overhead

Junkyards don't have a lot of overhead. They typically have acres of land they park abandoned or broken-down vehicles on, and a main office they use to inventory their parts and automobiles. You might be surprised that when you call to get a part, they tell you where a vehicle is located on their lot for you to extract what you need. This keeps your costs low when buying recycled auto parts, since you don't have to help cover wages for employees to remove auto parts for reselling.

Trade value

Many salvage yards give you a discount on your purchase if you return your broken part to them after purchasing your used auto parts. Parts include solenoids, batteries, and more. If you have a used vehicle that no longer runs, you can often even trade this vehicle to them in exchange for parts you need on a different vehicle. Junk yards will often work with you in trade if you have supplies they could use in their yard that you no longer want.

If you need used auto parts for your vehicle, a salvage yard may be a wonderful option for you. With a great variety of parts at many price points, low overhead so you can get parts at cost, and even an option for trade, you can get what you need to fix your car at a very inexpensive rate.

About Me

Exploring Engine Rebuild Parts and Practices

Hi everyone, my name is Lee Flounce. I am crazy about rebuilding engines in my spare time. The process of breaking down a combustion engine to find the damaged parts waiting inside definitely intrigues me. I carefully remove each part and place it on a piece of cardboard for a close inspection. Once the engine is broken into its individual components, I take some of the parts to the machine shop and clean others at home. I order all of the seals, gaskets and internal components in need of replacement and wait for my parts to return from the machine shop. Once I have everything I need, I rebuild the engine using the torque specs for all of the nuts and bolts. I would like to explore all of the parts and practices employed in this process through my website, as it differs slightly from engine to engine.
