Parts Falling Out From Underneath Your Car As You Drive Down The Road? Why You May Need Them For Car Repairs

by Rosa Wallace

Driving down the road, the last thing you expect is to hear and see parts falling off and falling out from underneath your vehicle. It is a bit of a weird sight, seeing parts flying and rolling out behind you. If you can, stop and grab these parts, and then take them (and your car) to a car repair shop. Here is why you may need those parts that seemingly dropped off your car with little warning.

The Parts May Still Be Usable

Even though these parts have fallen off your vehicle, they may still be usable. There is a good chance that some bolts and screws came loose and that is why these parts fell off. It means that the parts are still good, and all you really need is a mechanic's help putting them back onto your vehicle where these parts belong. All things considered, that is a huge chance for savings in terms of car parts when there is nothing actually wrong with the parts themselves.

The Parts Will Tell the Mechanic Exactly What Broke

Giant coiled springs are part of the car's suspension system. A piece of exhaust pipe means that the muffler needs work. A caliper reveals that this part fell off part of your brake system, and it needs to go back on your vehicle right away or get replaced so that your brakes do not fail completely. By stopping to pick up the parts that fall off your vehicle, your mechanic will know exactly where to look for missing parts and know what to fix.

The Parts Can Reveal a Lot About the Condition of the Underside of Your Vehicle

If the parts cannot be reinstalled on your vehicle because they are too rusted or too damaged, then saving the parts reveals the condition of the underside of your vehicle. There are sections of your car that may have been damaged in a prior accident or sections of your car that are rusted clean through. The mechanic can get underneath your vehicle, take a look around, and uncover parts of your vehicle that are most likely to fail or fall off next. If things are really bad, then your mechanic might suggest other repairs to do as soon as possible to prevent major accidents and prevent finding yourself stuck on the side of the road or in the middle of a road somewhere with a broken-down car.

About Me

Exploring Engine Rebuild Parts and Practices

Hi everyone, my name is Lee Flounce. I am crazy about rebuilding engines in my spare time. The process of breaking down a combustion engine to find the damaged parts waiting inside definitely intrigues me. I carefully remove each part and place it on a piece of cardboard for a close inspection. Once the engine is broken into its individual components, I take some of the parts to the machine shop and clean others at home. I order all of the seals, gaskets and internal components in need of replacement and wait for my parts to return from the machine shop. Once I have everything I need, I rebuild the engine using the torque specs for all of the nuts and bolts. I would like to explore all of the parts and practices employed in this process through my website, as it differs slightly from engine to engine.
